A huge number of people in the world are using their bank cards to pay for various goods and services. So the payments at fuel stations are no exception. Almost all the leading retailers in the world market of oil products have their own fuel cards.
Car enthusiasts are always looking for ways to save money on gasoline, they are in constant search for all available means. Some use traditional methods, for example, create their own reserve fuel, which would be enough for a certain period. But for most companies, which have tens of cars, this option is not suitable. This is where modern technology come in handy, in particular special fuel cards, which allow to do non-cash transactions. There are also coupons for gasoline - a relatively old method that is still in use. There are differences between these two options, but a plain comparison would allow people to make the right choice.
Today, fuel cards are replacing paper coupons, as a perfect means of cashless payment. The obvious shortcomings of the paper coupon are the possibility of misuse, lack of control expenses and complexity of the financial statements.
At various stages of the implementation of the coupon system, there are theoretically possibilities to deliberately misuse them for any benefit. For example, due to the lack of control over the consumption coupons it is likely that employees in possession of company coupons could hand them to a third party.
Another disadvantage of using paper coupons are frequent cases of loss or theft of coupons’ forms, which require a written request to block them and also take a few days after the registration of the written request. The risks of oil samples at filling stations off the lost or stolen coupons, are customers’ responsibility and that may entail certain financial losses.
In addition, the recovery of blocked coupons is possible only after the expiry of the date.
When servicing the fuel cards these risks are excluded due to the control over purposeful consumption of petroleum products and a simplified fuel card block process.
Fuel cards is the modern and reliable way to purchase fuel, allowing to refuel any kind of fuel and save and manage customer costs.
Many large companies have long preferred to buy fuel cards instead of allotting cash to their drivers. Cashless payments provide maximum transparency in all transactions, as they are reflected in the book keeping. This also completely eliminates the possibility of filling low-quality fuel sold at lower prices, while keeping the difference for personal use. This allows accumulating significant savings, as large-volume refuels are sold at a fixed price at a time, and then consumed for a long period while the changes in the fuel cost does not affect the volume of purchased fuel.
For this reason, many individuals also use a similar tool for calculating. For example, the fuel card becomes a kind of virtual fuel warehouse. It stores information about the purchased volume of petroleum products in advance and at each refueling automatically writes-off of consumption.
As practice shows, for corporate customers such usage of electronic payment systems can reduce fuel costs by up to 30 percent by minimizing fraud and increasing the security of payments for petroleum products.
Now, in some countries, contactless payment systems at the fuel stations are gaining popularity with the use of NFC technology. All one has to do is bring a mobile phone with a special SIM card with the integrated NFC-antenna to the reader at a gas station, and the gas station management system automatically releases the necessary amount of fuel within the reserved amount. The technology of contactless payments is certainly a progressive and a convenient settlement technology, the main advantage of which - is speed and automation.
As representatives of the companies involved in sales of petroleum products note, recently the sales with fuel cards has increased significantly. Nevertheless, coupons remain yet very popular and therefore is still a common way of non-cash payments for petroleum products among small companies.
Consequently, all significant deficiencies of the coupon system that fuel companies are faced can be effectively offset by the introduction of the cards system, as evidenced by long-term practice.
One of the major fuel station networks “KazMunaiGas” has long been successfully using the card system. The storage of petroleum products on the cards is carried out both in monetary terms and in the fuel purses. The significant advantage of the card is the possibility of its use throughout the territory of Kazakhstan.
According to Director of the Department of Refined Products of “KazMunaiGas Onimderi” Julia Zhernakova, the advantage of the KazMunaiGas fuel card is not only its simplicity, security and speed of service at gas stations, but also the possibility of reducing fuel costs. The card can become extremely effective and an accurate tool for monitoring, analysis and planning for the maintenance of the vehicle costs. “Currently, KazMunaiGas Onimderi has been carrying out explanatory works with government agencies to unveil the benefits of the card system and the gradual transition from coupons,” Julia Zhernakova noted.
Thus, the transition to the new technological platform opens up a large span of possibilities for the development of new and unique services to customers.
The choice is yours!
